Our team just returned from the Showit Spark Conference, held annually in Chandler, Arizona. It’s an inspiring event where designers and creators come together to elevate their brands. We traveled from Orlando and Atlanta, and as soon as we arrived, headed to a brand photoshoot hosted by Showit. The conference was filled with insights, unique merchandise, and great networking opportunities. Sponsors included The Legal Paige, Enji, Honeybook, Flodesk, Interact, Tonic Site Shop, and BDow.
The experience was inspiring and filled with ideas we’re eager to share. Here are five lessons from Showit’s Spark Conference that will elevate your approach. Let’s dive in.
This post is all about 5 things we learned while at a conference.
1. Embrace the Power of Networking
The first lesson? Networking is everything.
Networking is everything. At Showit Spark, we experienced the value of connecting with others who share our passion for tech and design. Meeting incredible individuals—from template experts to skilled developers—opened doors for future collaborations, mentorships, and even potential team members.
Takeaway: Networking is not just about business cards. It’s about building a team of allies who are excited about the same things you are.
2. Tech is Changing Faster Than Ever
Showit Spark highlighted the speed of tech evolution.️ One big thing we learned at the Spark conference? If you’re not keeping up, you’re falling behind. In Showit , new developments are happening daily. We learned that utilizing AI like ChatGPT maximizes brainstorming ideas to problem-solving. BDOW and Honeybook are great platforms we plan on incorporating into our business. It’s wild what new technology can help you accomplish!
Takeaway: Stay curious and keep learning, or risk becoming outdated. Conferences like Show it Spark are a shortcut to staying on top of tech trends.
3. Problem-solving is a Superpower
The third thing we learned is that everyone has their challenges, and conferences give you new ways to solve them.
We attended a few workshops. Our favorites include How to Create Work that gets noticed by Ariel Garcia, Maximizing Your Margins by Ingrid Urena, and Marketing Your Design & Web Templates by Krista Jones. We learned many techniques we would have never thought of. Seeing how others approach problems expands your toolkit.
Takeaway: Sharing problems openly. Listening to solutions from experts can turn you into a tech hero back at your job.
4. Soft Skills Are Just as Important as Hard Skills
Surprising, right? But it’s true—your communication and leadership skills can be just as valuable as coding.
In a leadership panel at Spark, I learned that managing people and clear communication are vital in Web Design. Who knew?! Showit isn’t just about the tech; it’s about guiding teams to use technology effectively.
Takeaway: Don’t just hone your technical skills—get better at leading and communicating. It’ll make a world of difference.
5. Take Time to Have Fun and Connect
Finally, one of the best parts for us? Take a break to enjoy the experience and have some fun! 🎉
It’s easy to get caught up in sessions and workshops, but the real magic sometimes happens in the casual conversations, coffee breaks, and even social events. I had some of the best talks over a casual lunch and even met people who became friends and mentors!
Takeaway: Balance learning with a little fun. Those unplanned moments can lead to lasting connections and unforgettable memories.
So, there you have it—my top five takeaways from the Spark conference! If you’re in I.T. I highly recommend attending conferences like this. The connections, insights, and inspiration are just unmatched.
